Ok…I’m making a post…but this is NOT just so Sean will post about Boobypalooza. Yes, I am interested, in a voyeuristic sort of way, to hear that bunnylicious tale but I had planned to post something anyway before Sean’s ruthless demands and I, in no way, want to reward that sort of cheesy blackmail. Oh, and this will probably be boring to. So there!
I’m sitting here at work, eating sushi for lunch and considering going to Starbuck’s in a little bit for some much needed caffeine. I’ve been meaning to post (really I have!) but every time I write something out it just sounds so lame and pathetic. I could fill up three pages worth of minutiae about the horses but who really wants to read that? I can barely get Larry to pay attention to it. I was going to post about my trip to California earlier this month but now that so much time has passed it seems pointless. I will make this observation though. Every time I go back to Modesto I’m simultaneously struck by how much everything has changed and how much things stay the same. I know the population is increasing and people need places to live but it breaks my heart to see all that prime farmland paved over and built up with same house repeated 100 times. And really, the cost of real estate in Modesto is ridiculous. I couldn’t afford to buy a house there right now even if I wanted to move back. Forget having land with horses. On the positive side, if the real estate bubble doesn’t burst and prices continue to rise, or just stay the same, my parent’s will make a tidy sum of money when they retire and sell their house in five years. Their plan is to put their boat in the Mississippi, cruise down it, through the Gulf of Mexico, up the east coast and through the Great Lakes. It’s called the Great Loop and it will take them a couple of years to complete. After that, they’ll be out of money (so they say) so we shouldn’t expect an inheritance. I don’t care as long as they enjoy themselves. They’ve earned it.
We’re having a work “party” this weekend. In other words, we’re bribing our friends with cold beer and yummy BBQ to come out and help us with some sweaty dirty labor intensive projects. Specifically, we’re getting the back pasture ready for the horses. Fences need mending, trash needs hauling away and a hotwire has to be strung. Not to mention all the poison ivy and various other weeds that have to be eradicated. Oh yes, a good time will be had by all! Some of our friends owe us. We’ve been putting in time at other people’s houses helping them with various home improvement projects so now it’s payback. One day we’ll actually make some improvements to the inside of the house but the horses have to come first. If the horses aren’t happy then Momma’s not happy and if Momma’s not happy then…well…you know.
That’s about it folks. Nothing much else to talk about. Oh, I bought the Modest Mouse and Franz Ferdinand cd’s. So far I’m digging both of them although I think they’re overplaying the Modest Mouse single, Float On. I hate it when a band I like gets super popular and trendy. And no, I didn’t really know about them before they got popular but dammit does EVERYONE have to know about them? I don’t think Franz Ferdinand will take off quite as big as Modest Mouse so at least I’ll have that. Both bands are playing in August at the Austin City Limits festival (with a butt load of other bands) so I’m trying to talk Larry into going but we probably won’t because we’re old and we suck. And now that’s really it. I have nothing more to post.
