Star Trek: TNG - Season 1

Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 (7 DVD Box set)
Starring: the cast from TNG, duh!
Synopsis: Is that really necessary?
cover

First of all I love Star Trek: TNG, but I am not a Trekkie. I'm afraid I have no understanding how any adult can be wrapped up about any form of entertainment to the point of obsession. I'll also be honest, I don't really like the original series either. My main issue is that the production values are horrible. Had these box sets not been remastered into Dolby Digital 5.1 I'm not sure I would even be buying them, but they are and I am. I can't state how thrilled I am with the set. There are some problems though. First of all, having 7 disks in one box that folds out to reveal them all is difficult to handle, in order to get to Disk 7 you must unfold, unfold, unfold, then unfold the box. You end up with something like 3 feet worth of DVDs, you pretty much have to take to a table to open it up. Also, though I enjoy that they have reinserted the scenes that were cut from airing in the US (in the UK they have a different policy on commercials making the shows longer) there is a very noticable drop in video quality in every added scene. Aside from that, these boxes are a reminder of how entertaining and high quality this show was. I still think Wesley Crusher was just fine, but then again I like Jar Jar too. I could do with out Counselor Troi though, she sure did get off to a bad start, she appears to be on a brink of an emotional breakdown in every scene. Of course that gets better overtime, as I will get to relive next month when Season Two gets released.

I knew this really wasn't my kind of movie, but while watching Legally Blonde a friend mentioned that Jennifer Coolidge played Stifler's Mom, the MILF, and insisted I watch it. Did I laugh, absolutely, there some funny gags, but I spent more of my time in awe of how unbelieveable the film was. Also Porky's kept running through my mind since it seems to be the blueprint for this movie. By the end of the film I had completely lost interest and didn't really care if anyone got laid or not. I'd also like to mention that Tara Reid is untalented and annoying.. ugh!

I like this movie because it is what it is, an light-hearted comedy that doesn't act like it has a message. I decided to review it when I watched it for a second time a couple of weekends ago. I'm not sure how anybody could dislike this movie. It's well made, well acted, and has humour that doesn't rely on gross out or profanity as the punch line. Even after repeated viewing I still found myself laughing and entertained by it's charm. This is a perfect movie when you want to sit down, relax, and have a good laugh.
